Princess Maria Josefa of Saxony Duchess of Saxony

Princess Maria Josefa of Saxony was born on 20 September 1928 in Bad Wörishofen. She spent her childhood in Bamberg, Germany. After completion of Wachwitz Castle in Dresden, the Margrave’s family moved to its homeland in 1936 and lived there until the tragic night of bombing on 13 February 1945. Having been expropriated for defence purposes by the Wehrmacht, the Wettins were forced to leave their home in one of the last trains, which departed from Dresden to the West.

Princess Maria Josefa of Saxony studied journalism and photography. As a journalist, she worked, inter alia, for the magazine “Style”. She published articles on personalities from culture, politics, nobility etc. On 16 October 1956, her daughter Maria Christina was born in Munich.
