Doctor Princess Mathilde of Saxony was born on 17 January 1936 in
After graduating from secondary school in Bregenz, Austria, she
moved together with the Margrave’s family to Munich-Harlaching.
There she lived together with her brother Prince Albert, reunited
with their parents in Munich after a long time of separation. The
children were looked after by their nanny Maria Schwimmer.
Princess Mathilde studied medicine in Munich and completed these
studies with a doctorate degree. Doctor Princess Mathilde of
Saxony practised as a paediatrician and specialist in skin
diseases in Munich, Innsbruck, Zurich and Davos.
She married Prince Johannes Heinrich of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in
Andechs Abbey on 12 November 1968. Their son Prince Johannes
Albert was born on 17 November 1969 in Innsbruck; he died by
accident while climbing at the Ortler in South Tyrol on 21 August
Prince Friedrich Christian of Saxony Duke of Saxony Margrave of Meissen
