Margrave Friedrich Christian of Meissen was born on 31 December 1893 in Dresden. He was married to Princess Elisabeth Helene of Thurn and Taxis (* 15 December 1903 in Regensburg, † 22 October 1973 in Munich). Together they had five children:

Margrave Friedrich Christian died on 9 August 1968 in Samedan (Switzerland). He was buried in the tomb next to the Royal Chapel in Brennbichl near Imst in Tyrol.
Head of the House

When his father, King Frederick Augustus III (Prince Frederick Augustus Johann Ludwig Karl Gustav Gregor Philipp of Saxony) died on 18 February 1932, Margrave Friedrich Christian became Head of the Royal House of Wettin. He held this position until his death in 1968.
At the University of Breslau, he received his doctorate with a thesis on Nicolaus Cusanus, who had been of enormous importance to the development of Canon Law in the late Middle Ages. During his time as Head of the House, he built “Wachwitz Castle“, the family’s new main residence, picturesquely situated in the Elbe valley. Margrave Friedrich Christian led the family through the difficult time of National Socialism. After the end of World War II, the Margrave set up a new start in Bavaria because a return to Dresden was not possible.
Decorations and memberships
He was Grand Master of the Order of the Rue Crown, Knight in the Order of the Black Eagle and Knight Grand Cross of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. In the year 1959, he revived the Order of St. Henry as Grandmaster. This Order had been founded on 7 October 1736 at Hubertusburg Castle.
